Akilah, a native of Detroit, MI has been performing since age 4, dancing from elementary all the way through middle school. Akilah was a part of a dance company called the Omawali Cultural Society where she perfected African dance. She graduated from Cass Technical High School where she grew to love modern and classical ballet under the direction of Mr. Anthony Smith and performed in many dance concerts. Akilah is a big performer; she was showcased in the musical “Sparkle” at Cass Technical High School directed by Marilyn McCorrimick where she starred in a dance number and a vocal performance. She has been singing since age 4 which inspired her to sing with Cornerstone choir, where they performed for many grand occasions, with the prestigious groups: CT Madrigals, Concert Choir, V-Jets, and Mystic Women for two years while attending Cass, and with the Wings of Joy of Friendship Baptist Church. She is the choreographer of Friendship Baptist’s Praise Dance. Akilah joined Spirit of the Moment at age 17, Akilah proclaims that, “Spirit of the Moment has been sisterhood of Christian women who have kept me on the straight and narrow. These women have experienced life, give great advise, and give you that extra push when you need it to help better myself as a Christian and as a young woman.” Akilah is currently a student at Wayne State University where her major is Actuarial Science. She is member and captain of the WSU Warrior Pom Team. Akilah believes that without God she wouldn’t have been blessed with these talents. So, she uses these blessings to praise God for all of his goodness and mercy. Her favorite scripture is John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son that whosever believed in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.”
