| I
began dancing in the 4th grade at the age of 9 for my church Prayer
Temple. At the time my dance instructors Malikah & Crystal showed
me that dance is another way to ministry to the people. They also showed
me my gift that God gave me, which was dance. Dancing for my church
got me ready for a bigger level in dancing. I performed my first solo
dance in the 6th grade. It was exciting yet scary for me to know that
I was in front of the congregation by myself ministering to people.
When I was out there dancing I felt this spirit upon me that I have
never felt before, and I knew at that moment that I ministered my first
solo dance. Out of all my years of dancing for my church I always knew
I wanted to do other types of dance and in 7th grade I was introduced
to them. While attending my middle school Erma Henderson, I was enrolled
in a dance class where my teacher Ms.Pryde taught me ballet, jazz, modern,
African and hip hop. Out of all the different genres of dance I fell
in love with ballet. The gracefulness and neatness of it was beautiful.
I continued dancing for my church and doing dance at school. But I always
knew that I wanted to go higher. Their 2006 DVD introduced me to SOM.
I remember telling myself “I want to be apart of that”.
The following year I had a chance to see SOM in concert for the first
time and I was blown away. To see a company ministry to people while
doing ballet and modern was mind blowing. And from that moment forward
I knew why God introduced me to my passion at a young age. I joined
SOM in 2008 and ministered my first dance with them for the album release
of Peggy James. And ever since then I have been happy. I’ve joined
a family that shares the same passion as me. And a bonus to that I’ve
gotten plenty of sisters and brothers that I love and I wouldn’t
trade them for anything in the world.
