Yolanda
started her dance career at the age of 11. She continued to dance through
her middle and high school years at Redford High, where she danced in
the All City Dance Concerts for three years in '91, '92, and '93. This
is where she met Sondra, Director of Spirit of the Moment, in 1992.
In 1993, she received an award for the Student Choreographer portion
of the All City Dance Concert. In that same year, she received an award
for her choreography "Are You Ready for a Miracle“ at the
Redford High School’s Student Choreography and Performance Awards.
In 1992, she began taking classes with Sondra Jackson. That year she
also took classes at the Detroit Windsor Dance Academy and O'Days School
of Dance. From 1994-98 she ministered through dance with Spirit of the
Moment. In 1998, she decided to stop dancing to pursue her degree in
Business and Administration, focusing in Marketing which she received
on June 16, 2002. She then took a class at Artistry in Motion and that
is when she knew that she missed dancing and it was time to return to
Spirit of the Moment. On April 15-20, 2003 she was apart of the Chorus
and dance in the play Perilous Times Part II. She closed 2003 and opened
2004 by acting in her first adult role as Pastor Johnson and Liu in
the musical production “Rhythmic Nations”. That year she
also danced in Perilous Times. In early 2005 she was cast as the Ghetto-Fabulous
hairdresser Nikki (the girl who will use her man for all his money)
in the Michael Mathews play “Too Good To Let Go”. She currently
dances throughout the Midwest and Canada with the Spirit of the Moment
Praise Dance Company. |
